Dangerous Cold Monday / School Closings / More Snow Possible for XMas Eve and Christmas
A look at which schools will close Monday and this week's weather, which could include more snow for the Christmas weekend.

Some schools have announced they will be closed Monday, or will be opening late, due to the dangerously cold temperatures.
Bitterly cold air spread across the Chicago area on Sunday and will remain in place through Monday morning. Temperatures are expected to plunge overnight, with some areas dropping to -20 to -25 degrees and wind chills dropping as low as -30 degrees. A wind chill advisory is in effect through Monday morning.
As of 6:30 p.m., some Chicago-area school districts had announced they would be opening late or would be closed Monday morning. Those districts include:

- District 131 (Aurora East): Closed Monday
- District 54 (Morris Elementary'): Closed Monday
Here is a look at some other area delays and closings:
- Elgin Academy: Opening late at 9 a.m.
- Hebron Elementary, Middle and High schools: Opening two hours late
- Krug Elementary School in Montgomery: Closed

Beside school closings, Metra riders should expect some delays Monday and plan accordingly, according to the Metra website. You can check the Metra website for more updates and to check for delays.
Temps are expected to warm on Tuesday with highs in the 30s expected. There is a chance for snow on Wednesday night and snow possible again on Christmas Eve, which is Saturday, and then again on Christmas.

- Sunday night: Clear. Bitterly cold. Lows 13 to 19 below in the suburbs...but 3 to 7 below downtown. Wind chills as low as 20 below to 30 below zero. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph.
- Monday: Sunny. Highs 12 to 16. Lowest wind chill readings 20 below to 30 below zero in the morning. Southwest winds 10 to 20 mph.
- Monday Night: Clear. Lows 8 to 12 above. Wind chills as low as zero to 10 below zero. Southwest winds 10 to 20 mph.
- Tuesday: Mostly sunny in the morning then becoming partly cloudy. Blustery. Highs around 30. Southwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.
- Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy. Lows 17 to 21. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph.
- Wednesday: Mostly cloudy. Highs in the lower 30s.
- Wednesday Night: Mostly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of light snow. Lows in the mid 20s.
- Thursday: Mostly cloudy. Highs in the lower 30s.
- Thursday Night And Friday: Partly cloudy. Lows in the lower 20s. Highs in the mid 30s.
- Friday Night And Saturday: Mostly cloudy. Lows in the upper 20s. Highs in the mid 30s.
- Saturday Night: Cloudy with a 30 percent chance of light snow. Lows in the lower 20s.
- Christmas Day: Mostly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of light snow. Highs in the upper 20s.
