DePaul WBB Beats Creighton for 4th Straight

The DePaul Blue Demons won their 4th straight game and now have a holiday break before facing tough Big East rival UConn.

The DePaul Blue Demons beat Creighton University 90-81 to notch their fourth straight victory. The win was the first of four road games against Big East opponents.

The game was pretty even in the first quarter, ending 26-24 DePaul. Creighton had an 11 point run in the second quarter to lead the team to a 45-41 halftime edge. The third quarter was pretty even again, with DePaul shaving one point off the lead, making it 63-60. Once again, DePaul had a great fourth quarter, outscoring Creighton 30-18 to seal the win.

Sonya Morris had 22 points to lead DePaul. She also added eight assists, six rebounds, one steal and one block.

Five other Blue Demons finished with double-digit points; Dee Bekelja (16), Deja Church (15), Jorie Allen (14), Lexi Held (10), and Darrione Rogers (10). Kendall Holmes added three points to round out the scoring.

Second-chance points were pretty even with DePaul being up 9-8, while Creighton was up 46-44 on points in the paint. Creighton had a big edge in bench points (27-10), but DePaul shutout Creighton on fast-break points (8-0).

Indiana transfer Allen made her DePaul debut. Her father Jeff Allen played for DePaul (1981-83) under legendary coach Ray Meyer and her sister Jenna played at Michigan State.

DePaul came into the game ranked No. 18 by AP from No. 24 after their upset win of Kentucky. In the USA Today poll, they improved from No. 23 to No. 20.

Three of DePaul’s first five games were against top 10 teams in last week’s AP and USA Today Coaches polls (No. 2/2 Louisville, No. 9/9 Kentucky, No. 10/10 Texas A&M). It doesn't get easier, as their next game is against No. 3/5 Connecticut on December 29.
