Dozens of Gang Members Nabbed in Chicago
Chicago Police Department conducts "high precision" sweep over 36 hour period Thursday and Friday.
CHICAGO, IL - An elaborate police operation has netted the arrests of 61 documented gang members in Chicago.
Narcotics and vice missions in the city pulled off the operation beginning on Thursday and spent 36 hours in 15 of the city’s 22 districts. They focused on “problem” areas noted by aldermen and residents, totaling 101 arrests in all.
The effort was made to “strike at the heart” of gang activity in the city, according to a Chicago Police Department news release.

“For too long repeat offenders have cycled through the criminal justice system just to return back out on the streets and commit the same crimes over and over again,” said Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson. "These initiatives are meant to put repeat offenders, who have a complete disregard for the law, that CPD will not let their actions go without consequence."
Eighty of those arrested were charged with selling narcotics within 1,000 feet of a school. Seven guns, including one revolver, were recovered in the mission.
