Dozens Of Teens Attack 3 People On Near North Side

A mob of teens attacked victims on a Red Line platform, police said.

CHICAGO — Police are reviewing surveillance videos from Mag Mile and the Chicago Red Line station after a group of up to 50 teenagers attacked people and disrupted local businesses. At least three people were attacked at the Chicago station, 800 N. State St., around 7:30 p.m.

One of the teens in the group asked a 26-year-old man if he was recording them, and when he denied it, the teens began punching him, according to the Chicago Sun Times. The teens also attacked a 29-year-old woman and her 28-year-old boyfriend.

All three victims were treated for lacerations and bruising, authorities said. The 28-year-old later learned that his eye socket was fractured, according to the Sun-Times report.

A large group of teens also went into a McDonald's near the Chicago station, and a worker tried to lock them out, according to CBS 2. The restaurant temporarily closed.

Stores in Water Tower Place closed an hour early after a mob of teens — likely the same group — disrupted business there, CBS 2 reported.

Chicago police superintendent Eddie Johnson said there's "a lot of video" of the mob.

“Once we identify the subjects, then we’re going to hold them accountable,” Johnson said.

Police said additional officers will be patrolling downtown streets on New Year's Eve.
