Chicago Man Charged In Chain-Reaction Crash On Ike That Left Wheaton Man Dead

CHICAGO—A Chicago man is charged with triggering a deadly crash on the I-290 Eisenhower Expressway early Sunday morning that left a Wheaton man dead, Illinois State Police said.

Jose F. Perez Marin, of Chicago, is charged with aggravated DUI involving death, aggravated DUI-no driver’s license, and one count of aggravated DUI with great bodily harm, all felonies.

Just before 3 a.m. Sunday, Illinois State Police troopers responded to a crash in the westbound lanes west of Ashland Avenue on I-290. Troopers alleged Perez Marin had driven his GMC SUV into the back of a Toyota SUV, causing a chain reaction with two additional vehicles.

Troopers said a passenger in the Toyota SUV, 25-year-old Benjamin M. Farraday, of Wheaton, was transported to an area hospital, where he died of his injuries. Perez Marin and five other people were also injured in the crash.

ISP special agents arrested Perez Marin when he was released from the hospital, law enforcement said.

The Cook County State’s Attorney approved felony charges on Tuesday. Perez Marin remains in the custody of Cook County Jail pending his initial court appearance.
