Driver Dies After 3-Vehicle Airborne Rollover Crash On I-55: Police

The interstate was closed for over five hours near Central Avenue in Chicago, police said.

CHICAGO, IL — A driver was killed after a three-vehicle crash Monday on Interstate 55 near Central Avenue in Chicago, according to police.

The incident occurred about 8:45 a.m., when a vehicle was traveling north at a high rate of speed and struck another vehicle, causing the first vehicle to go into a ditch, become airborne, flip repeatedly on the interstate’s southbound side and hit a third vehicle head-on, state police said. The drivers of the first and third vehicles were taken to a hospital, and the driver of the third vehicle was later pronounced dead, according to police.

The interstate was closed for over five hours, police said.
