DUI Driver Who Killed 2 In I-90 Crash Is Charged: Police

CHICAGO — A Chicago man faces several felony charges after he struck a stopped car on the Kennedy Expressway while intoxicated, killing two people and injuring himself and two others, police said.

Isaiah Olivas, 27, of Chicago, turned himself in to state police after the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office on Monday approved charges against him in connection with the deaths of Rashad Dean and Nadinah Cunnings, according to authorities.

Olivas is charged with two counts of aggravated driving under the influence involving death and two counts of aggravated driving under the influence causing great bodily harm, police said.

The crash occurred around 1:45 a.m. March 15 on southbound Interstate 90 at Randolph Street in Chicago, according to police. A Hyundai sedan had become disabled and was stopped in the left lane when a Jeep, driven by Olivas, rear-ended the car, police said.

Olivas and the Hyundai’s four occupants were taken to hospitals with injuries, according to police, who said Dean and Cunnings were pronounced dead at the hospital.

Olivas remains in custody at the Cook County Jail, police said Tuesday.
