El Tango Café to Open Again – For Three Nights Only!
El Tango Café is reopening its doors for three nights only at The Edge Theater, Edgewater.

El Tango Café is reopening its doors for three nights only. The company will be performing its original show at The Edge Theater in Edgewater on June 22, 23 and 24.
First performed in 2014, the show tells the story of one man’s love affair with tango, after stumbling into a beautiful tango café filled with friendship, love and heartbreak. The show is based on real-life events at Ritz Tango Café – the tango café run by Tango 21 Dance Theater founder, Jorge Niedas, from 2006 to 2010.
El Tango Café is a fantastic ‘gateway’ show, providing a unique opportunity for audiences to learn about authentic Argentine tango. Through the eyes of David, played by Trent Oldham, we learn about the culture of tango – a world away from the over-sexualized dances we see in much of today’s popular culture.

“Staging and performing El Tango Café is always a very personal experience for me. Ritz Tango Café was a huge part of my life for many years, and having the opportunity to relive some of those very special experiences through this show is a wonderful collision of art and life.”
Co-founder and managing director of Tango 21 Dance Theater, Liz Sung, added:
“If it hadn’t been for Ritz Tango café, I might never have found tango myself. It was on a whim that I visited the café and tried tango. I was immediately hooked and haven’t looked back since. We always tell our company and audiences that tango has the power to transform you. After 11 years of tango and foyr years since the company performed its first show, I’m the living proof!”
