Expressway Gunman Arrested After Shooting Driver In Face: Police
A Zion man was accused of shooting into a car with a 7-year-old girl inside Sunday evening on the Kennedy. Luckily, she escaped injury.

CHICAGO — A Zion man is accused of shooting a man through a car window while driving on the expressway on Sunday evening. A 28-year-old man was hit multiple times in the face, shoulder and hand by bullets fired around 7:43 p.m. on the inbound lanes of the Kennedy Expressway near Montrose Avenue, according to state police. A 26-year-old woman and a 7-year-old girl, who were also inside the targeted vehicle at the time of the shooting, avoided injury.
Tayan E. Williams, 34, of Zion, was arrested Tuesday and charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm following a traffic stop in Zion.
Police said he pulled up on the left shoulder in an older gray Buick, rolled down the window and shot several times. An off-duty Chicago cop witnessed the shooting and called 911, according to state police.

Multiple shell casings were found on the road, and Chicago detectives were able to identify Williams as the shooter.
Illinois State Police Director Leo Schmitz said the arrest was a testament to his agencies commitment to stop shootings on the state's expressways.

"Gun violence on the expressways of Illinois is unacceptable," he said.
Schmitz said state police were assisted by prosecutors in Lake and Cook counties, the Children's Advocacy Center in Chicago and police departments in Chicago, Gurnee, Highland Park and Zion for their role in the case.
"The ISP works tirelessly to investigate these crimes and arrest the perpetrators that commit these violent acts."
