Fall Begins In IL: Temps Drop To 60s By Mid-Week

Storms are possible Monday and Tuesday before a strong cold front moves into the area.

ILLINOIS — After a warmer weekend with temps near 90 degrees, a cold front is approaching the area just in time for the first day of fall on Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service, showers and thunderstorms are possible Monday into Tuesday until a strong cold front moves across the Chicago area. Storms could produce heavy downpours.

Monday has a high of 83 degrees, with storms possible during the day and at night, according to the weather service. Storms are also possible on Tuesday, which has a high of 76 degrees.

Wednesday, the first day of fall, has a high of 68 degrees and should be dry and sunny, according to the weather service. Thursday will be similar with a high of 70.

Dangerous conditions are possible on Lake Michigan beaches on Wednesday and Thursday, as there will be a life-threatening combination of large waves and strong currents caused by gusty winds, the weather service said.

Friday will be mostly sunny with a high of 76, according to the weather service.
