Family Of 8-Year-Old Gizzell Ford Awarded $48M In Torture Death

The little girl was murdered by her grandmother in 2013.

CHICAGO, IL — The mother and grandfather of 8-year-old Gizzell Ford have been awarded a $48 million settlement in a wrongful death and negligence lawsuit. Dr. Norell Rosado was accused of negligence after the family said he failed to notify authorities about signs the girl had suffered abuse. The 8-year-old was tortured and murdered by her grandmother, Helen Ford, in 2013.

Rosado was part of a team that evaluated the 8-year-old after an abuse report, just weeks before she was killed. The lawsuit alleges the doctor failed to ask basic questions about injuries.

Rosado testified that he only found "nonsuspicious" and "nonspecific" abrasions on the girl. The pediatrician denied allegations of negligence.
