Former Bear Hampton's BAC Twice The Legal Limit When Pulled Over

CHICAGO – Chicago Bears Hall of Famer Dan Hampton’s blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit when he was pulled over in Indiana last month after he told police had he five beers at a friend’s house near his home, according to a published report.

Hampton, who was charged with three misdemeanor counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, paid a $2,500 fine and now faces having his driver’s license suspended, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Hampton’s blood alcohol level was .189 when he was stopped in Winfield, Ind., three miles from his home on Nov.20. The Tribune, citing charging documents, said that Hampton also had an open jug of wine in the truck when he was pulled over. Indiana’s legal limit is 0.8.

Hampton, 64, reportedly told police, “that’s really high,” when informed of his blood alcohol level, the report said.

Hampton could face up to a year in jail and a $5,000 fine based on the three charges he faces, the newspaper reported. Hampton is scheduled back in court on Jan.25.
