Freezing Rain, Icy Roads to Mess With Monday Morning Commute for Chicago Area
A look ahead at the forecast for the Chicago area for the rest of this week.

Monday morning’s commute could be a dicey one for many with freezing rain and icy roads expected throughout the Chicago area.
A winter weather advisory will take effect for north central Illinois and the western Chicago suburbs, which includes Kane, McHenry, Kendall and DeKalb counties from 5 a.m. to noon, according to the National Weather Service. A light freezing rain will spread northeast overnight with the chance for some snow or sleet mixing in.
Freezing rain is expected across the Chicago area during the morning hours. The heaviest ice accumulation is expected in the advisory area, WGN TV reports.

- Tonight: Mostly cloudy. A 20 percent chance of light freezing rain and light snow late. Temperatures nearly steady in the upper 20s to lower 30s. Southeast winds around 5 mph.
- Martin Luther King Jr Day: Cloudy. Chance of light rain and light freezing rain in the morning...then light rain in the afternoon. Little to no ice accumulation. Highs in the upper 30s. East winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation 90 percent.
- Monday Night: Rain and a slight chance of thunderstorms in the evening...then light rain after midnight. Areas of fog after midnight. Lows in the upper 30s. Then temperatures becoming steady or slowly rising. Southeast winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation 90 percent.
- Tuesday: Areas of fog in the morning. Cloudy with a 40 percent chance of light rain. Highs in the lower 40s. West winds 10 to 15 mph.
- Tuesday Night: Cloudy. A 20 percent chance of light rain and light snow in the evening. Lows in the lower 30s. West winds 10 to 15 mph.
- Wednesday: Partly sunny. Highs in the lower 40s.
- Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy. Lows in the lower 30s.
- Thursday: Partly cloudy. Highs in the mid 40s.
- Thursday Night: Partly cloudy. Chance of light rain and light snow after midnight. Lows in the upper 30s. Chance of precipitation 30 percent.
