Funk Reignites Ravinia: Earth, Wind & Fire Deliver Timeless Groove Under the Stars
A night of soaring horns, enduring classics, and pure joy lit up Ravinia
August 7, 2025
Under a warm summer sky at Ravinia’s Pavilion, Earth, Wind & Fire brought their signature blend of soul, funk, and showmanship to an ecstatic crowd. From the first blast of brass to the last lingering chord, the legendary group turned Ravinia into a sea of dancing bodies and smiling faces.
The band set the tone early with the joyful punch of “Shining Star”, igniting the pavilion and the lawn in unison. Their horn section was razor-sharp, trading sizzling riffs with the bass lines that anchored the night’s deep grooves. “Jupiter” was a high-flying burst of energy, drawing cheers with every syncopated hit, while “Got to Get You Into My Life” brought a soulful spin to The Beatles’ classic, complete with lush horn swells and vibrant harmonies.

Mid-show, they shifted gears into more tender territory. “Reasons” showcased the band’s vocal finesse, sending waves of applause after every soaring falsetto. “That’s the Way of the World” became a communal sing-along, with the audience swaying in the warm night air. But just as easily, the band would snap back into party mode—“Boogie Wonderland” and “Let’s Groove” had fans on their feet from front row to back lawn, their movements silhouetted against the stage lights.
By the time “September” rang out, it felt less like a concert and more like a block party thrown by the funkiest hosts imaginable. The encore, “In the Stone,” sealed the night with an exclamation point, sending everyone home buzzing from two hours of pure, polished joy.

As the final notes echoed into the summer night, the crowd lingered under strings of soft lights, blankets scattered across the lawn, wine glasses still clinking. The air carried both the scent of picnics and the hum of people replaying their favorite moments. At Ravinia, music isn’t just heard—it’s lived, shared, and woven into a perfect summer evening. Earth, Wind & Fire didn’t just give a concert; they became part of the venue’s storied magic.
