Heat Index Near 100 On Saturday, Severe Storms Possible
Damaging wind gusts are the main threats for forecasted storms on Saturday afternoon into Saturday evening.
ILLINOIS — Heat index values will approach 100 degrees Saturday, as a high of 90 degrees is expected, according to the National Weather Service. There is also a chance of severe weather on Saturday afternoon into the evening.
Heat exhaustion will be possible with prolonged exposure on Saturday, so those outdoors should take frequent breaks, the weather service said. The weather service said scattered thunderstorms are possible Saturday afternoon into the evening, and some storms may be severe with damaging wind gusts as the main threat.
The highest coverage of storms is favored in northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana, the weather service said.

Smoke from Canadian wildfires may continue the hazy conditions into Saturday and Sunday, the weather service said.
Sunday will also be warm, but no rain or storms are expected, according to the weather service forecast. Sunday has a high of 92, but it will be cooler near the lake.
