Heavy Rainfall, Flooding Possible for Chicago Area

CHICAGO, IL - A rainy weekend is ahead for the Chicago area. On Friday, scattered showers are possible throughout the area and a thunderstorm could hit east of Interstate 55, according to the National Weather Service. More widespread heavy rain and thunderstorms are in the forecast late Saturday through Sunday evening.

Those living in low-lying flood prone areas and locations along rivers and streams should play close attention to forecast information over the weekend as sharp river rises and flooding is possible, according to the National Weather Service.

• THURSDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Lows in the lower 40s. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph in the evening decreasing to around 5 mph after midnight.
• FRIDAY: Cloudy. Light rain likely in the afternoon. Highs in the upper 50s inland...but only in the lower 50s near the lake. Southeast winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation 60 percent.
• FRIDAY NIGHT: Cloudy with a 50 percent chance of showers. Lows in the mid 40s. Northeast winds 10 to 15 mph.
• SATURDAY: Cloudy. Chance of showers in the morning, then showers in the afternoon. Highs around 50 inland...but only in the mid 40s near the lake. Northeast winds 10 to 20 mph. Gusts up to 30 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation 80 percent.
• SATURDAY NIGHT: Showers and a chance of thunderstorms. Lows in the mid 40s. Northeast winds 10 to 20 mph. Chance of precipitation 90 percent.
• SUNDAY: Showers and a chance of thunderstorms. Highs in the upper 50s to mid 60s inland...but only in the lower 50s near the lake. Chance of precipitation 80 percent.
• SUNDAY NIGHT: Cloudy with showers and a chance of thunderstorms. Lows around 50. Chance of precipitation 80 percent.
• MONDAY: Mostly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of showers. Highs in the mid 50s.
