CHICAGO — As the Chicago Bears prepare to square off their week one matchup against the rival Green Bay Packers on Sunday at Soldier Field, a new report shows the team and league are rolling in the big bucks.

The Bears’ value has remained among the league leaders under the ownership of the McCaskey family and matriarch Virginia McCaskey. The daughter of George Halas turned 100 years old in January, an occasion marked only by a small, private family celebration, according to a story on the Bears website.

But Bears chairman George McCaskey, who once famously said that his mother was “pissed off” by the Bears’ on-the-field struggles, said that Virginia McCaskey’s influence can be feltthroughout the organization.

"She's the guiding force behind everything we do here, and everybody knows that, including the guys in the locker room," George McCaskey told the team’s website.

The Bears open the new season hoping for a vast improvement from last year’s 3-14 record in Coach Matt Eberflus’ first season. In addition to preparations for a better season, the team’s uncertain future playing in Chicago has dominated off-season storylines. The Bears have been public in conversations with various communities hoping to land the Bears’ new domed stadium, which team officials once planned to build in Arlington Heights before conversations with officials there reached a stalemate.

Bears President Kevin Warren has told officials in various communities, including the City of Chicago that he wants to build the best stadium in sports that would house major sporting events, concerts, and other happenings in a multi-billion setting that he says will be financially meaningful to both the franchise and the Chicago region.

“We had that period where we were focused on Arlington – we have some issues that we still need to work on (and) there is still a possibility there,” Warren said recently on a podcast hosted by NFL writer Peter King. “But one of the things I promised myself and promised the McCaskey family is that I would really take a fresh look at what’s the best thing to do. If it turns out to be Arlington, it turns out to be Arlington.”
