Highs Near 60 / Wind Gusts up to 45 MPH / Snow Later in the Week

Portions of the Chicago area could see highs near 60 degrees Monday before wind gusts near 45 mph could bring much colder temps this afternoon.

The mild morning temps Monday morning were expected to start to drop off during the afternoon hours as winds shift to the west-southwest, according to the National Weather Service.

Though winds will diminish slowly Monday night, it will remain quite blustery with wind chills in the teens.

As many head back to work after the holiday weekend on Tuesday, highs between 31 and 37 degrees are in the forecast for the Chicago area. The high wind gusts are expected to drop off.

Another relatively mild day is expected Wednesday, before colder air returns with scattered snow showers Thursday.

Here is a detailed look at this week’s forecast:

• Monday: Windy. Partly cloudy late in the morning then becoming mostly sunny. Highs in the lower 50s. Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph. Gusts up to 40 mph in the afternoon.
• Monday Night: Windy. Mostly clear in the evening then becoming partly cloudy. Lows in the mid 20s. West winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 35 mph in the evening decreasing to 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph after midnight.
• Tuesday: Partly cloudy. Highs in the mid 30s. West winds 10 to 20 mph.
• Tuesday Night: Mostly clear. Lows in the mid 20s. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph.
• Wednesday: Mostly sunny in the morning then becoming partly sunny. Highs in the lower 40s. Southwest winds 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.
• Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy. Lows in the upper 20s.
• Thursday: Windy. Mostly cloudy. A 30 percent chance of snow showers in the afternoon. Highs in the lower 30s.
• Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of snow showers. Lows in the lower 20s.
• Friday And Friday Night: Partly cloudy. Highs around 30. Lows in the mid 20s.
