Obituaries

Hyman "Hy" Addison, age 77.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 19 at 11 AM in the Hospitality Room at 2800 N. Lake Shore Drive.

Hy (Hyman) Addison of Chicago passed away peacefully at home in the early morning of February 14, 2023. A lifelong Chicagoan, Hy was born on October 3, 1945, to Louis and Shirley (Jens) Addison. He leaves behind the love of his life and wife of 35 years, Dale (Anenberg) Addison, son Brian Addison, grandson Gavin (15), and granddaughter Piper (12).

A graduate of Mather High School, Northwestern University, and Northwestern University School of Law, Hy proudly spent his entire career as an attorney with Edward Hines Lumber Company, forging special relationships with his colleagues and rising to the role of General Counsel. Post-retirement, Hy volunteered with Legal Aid Chicago and the Lincoln Park Zoo, where he relished greeting and helping gift shop visitors. An accomplished drummer, devout Cubs fan, and adorer of cloudless days by the pool he’d glowingly declare “a ten,” Hy was admired by friends and family for his fun-loving nature, magnetic sense of humor, and quick wit.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 19 at 11 AM in the Hospitality Room at Hy and Dale’s home, 2800 N. Lake Shore Dr., with the same beautiful city view that Hy treasured for so many years. Following the service, guests are welcome to congregate at Brian’s home, 1445 W. Cullom Ave. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be directed to Planned Parenthood www.plannedparenthood.org and to the American Cancer Society www.cancer.org.
