Iconic Ed Debevic's To Reopen In Streeterville: Report

The restaurant is planning to return to downtown Chicago.

CHICAGO, IL — The iconic diner Ed Debevic's could reopen in Streeterville, according to a recent report. Known for its sassy, dancing servers, the restaurant sat on the corner of Erie Street and North Wells in River North for nearly three decades. It closed in 2015, and was replaced with a high-rise.

After Ed Debevic's closed, it tweeted that it was looking for a spot to reopen. Many replied with suggestions for spots across the United States, and said they missed the iconic diner.

According to a report by Eater, a building permit was issued for the restaurant for $1 million in renovations at 550 N. St. Clair Street. The location is the ground floor of a high-rise, on the corner of St. Clair and Ohio Streets.

Ed Debevic's served 1950s-style burgers, shakes and fries, and was known for its entertaining servers' tongue-and-cheek, rude service.
