Infinity Math, Science and Technology High School Teacher Honored as ‘Symetra Hero in the Classroom’

"History teacher Dennis Kass engages his students and encourages them to learn more about the social issues that impact our communities."

Symetra, Gallagher Benefit Services and the Chicago Bears honored Infinity Math, Science and Technology High School teacher Dennis Kass as a “Symetra Hero in the Classroom” on Dec. 14 during a surprise classroom presentation. Kass is a history instructor at the high school located in Chicago’s Little Village/South Lawndale community.

“Mr. Dennis Kass is a hero in every sense of the word to me. He has a unique style of teaching that not only engages his students, it also encourage them to learn more about the social issues that impact our communities,” said Jessica Samperio, a former student. “Mr. Kass holds a law degree, which sets him apart from most teachers. He is passionate about social justice and continuously works to improve the lives of his current and former students and their families. His role as a teacher-attorney allows them to feel comfortable and safe talking to him about their problems.” Samperio nominated Kass for the Symetra Heroes in the Classroom® award.

“As challenging or impossible as an issue may seem, Mr. Kass never gives up on his students. He is always willing to provide his time and energy to help with school work or legal issues. I am one of the countless students who has turned to him for assistance, and I am positive that I would not be where I am today were it not for his constant motivation and selfless acts of kindness,” said Samperio. “It is not an exaggeration to say that Mr. Kass saved me. He has provided me and many other students with the necessary resources to change our lives for the better. I know that he will always be there by our side to help us whenever we need it. These are just some of the many reasons why he is our hero, one who inspires us every day.”
