2) Chicago Sky win Game 3 over Connecticut Sun 76-72—and can clinch semifinal series Tuesday on the road. With their shots once again not falling, the Chicago Sky turned to their defense to take control of their WNBA semifinal series. The reigning league champions forced 17 Connecticut Sun turnovers and held the Sun scoreless for more than 4½ minutes late in the fourth quarter of a 76-72 victory Sunday in Uncasville, Connecticut. The Sky lead the best-of-five series 2-1 and can clinch a return to the WNBA Finals with a victory in Game 4 on Tuesday at Mohegan Sun Arena.
3) As more asylum-seekers arrive from Texas, Chicago shares ways locals can show support. Less than a week after Texas bussed a group of asylum-seekers to Chicago in a program that has sparked much controversy, an additional 50 arrived in the city Sunday. The asylum-seekers were dropped off around 4:15 p.m. at Chicago's Union Station, which is one of the destinations Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has designated a "sanctuary city." The others include Washington, D.C. and New York. Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said she found out that the asylum-seekers were on their way Saturday afternoon. Now, officials are working to find shelter and other services for the individuals.
4) 50 new pickleball courts coming to Chicago by 2025 as interest in sport skyrockets. The Park District is laying out plans for more pickleball, and you can help officials decide where to install dozens of courts. The Park District will build 50 courts for pickleball by 2025. The courts will be at parks throughout the city and will join 80 courts already in action. But only four of those courts are dedicated to pickleball, while the rest must share space with its bigger, older cousin: tennis. The type of court installed—whether a shared converted court or dedicated pickleball court—will be based on input from the community, Park District spokesperson Michele Lemons said. Suggestions for where the pickleball courts should go can be made online.
5) Art Institute showcasing the arts of Africa in major exhibit. When people think of the Art Institute of Chicago, African art is likely not the first thing that comes to mind, according to a museum curator. The department's profile should get a big boost Nov. 20 with the opening of a large-scale show in Regenstein Hall, the museum's main special-exhibition gallery, titled, "The Language of Beauty in African Art." With more than 250 sculptures from cultures across the continent, it is the largest show to date to explore the aesthetic appreciation of these objects through the eyes of their African makers and users and to make clear that their appearance is intimately tied to their function.
