Storms In Labor Day Forecast: Chicago-Area Weather
A look at the weather forecast for the upcoming holiday weekend.

The last official weekend of summer for the Chicago area is looking to be a pleasant one. Sunny skies and dry weather are in the forecast for Friday through Sunday with a chance of showers possible Monday afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service. Meanwhile, temps are expected to warm as the weekend wears on with highs near 90 degrees on Monday.
On Friday, much cooler temps are in the forecast. Highs between 67 and 73 degrees are expected for the Chicago area. Meanwhile, Saturday should see highs between 71 and 77 degrees and on Sunday, high temps between 77 and 83 degrees are possible. Monday is expected to be breezy with highs between 85 and 89 degrees.
There is a 20 to 40 percent chance for showers and thunderstorms on Monday. But Labor Day is not expected to be a total washout. The wet weather is expected Monday afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service.

Meanwhile, a beach hazards statement is in effect through this evening for beaches along Lake Michigan in Illinois. Life-threatening waves reaching four to seven feet high and strong rip currents are expected and everyone is advised to stay out of the water, according to the National Weather Service.

Here is a more detailed look at the forecast for the days ahead:
- FRIDAY: Partly cloudy in the morning then becoming mostly sunny. Highs near 70. Northeast winds 10 to 20 mph. Gusts to 30 mph right near the lake.
- FRIDAY NIGHT: Clear. Lows around 50 in the suburbs...but in the upper 50s downtown. Northeast winds 10 to 15 mph.
- SATURDAY: Sunny. Highs in the mid 70s. North winds 5 to 10 mph.
- SATURDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy in the evening then clearing. Lows in the upper 50s in the suburbs...but in the lower 60s downtown. West winds 5 to 10 mph.
- SUNDAY: Sunny. Highs in the lower 80s. West winds 5 to 10 mph.
- SUNDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows in the mid 60s.
- LABOR DAY: Mostly sunny in the morning, then partly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs in the upper 80s.
- MONDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening. Lows in the upper 50s. Chance of precipitation 40 percent.
- TUESDAY: Partly cloudy. Highs around 70.
