Lake Shore Drive Reopens After Bridge Repairs

A bridge south of the Chicago River has been fixed in time for Tuesday rush hour traffic.

CHICAGO — Northbound lanes on Lake Shore Drive reopened Tuesday between Grand Avenue and Monroe Street after support beams cracked under the road. Chicago Department of Transportation crews have spent the past 24 hours working to repair the damage.

The beams cracked just south of the Chicago River after extreme weather changes in the city, CDOT said.

Steel towers were put in place to support the bridge until permanent repairs can be made, officials said.
