Len Kasper Could Read Your Voicemail Message

Bidding open to have Chicago Cubs play-by-play voice be the sound of your voicemail in benefit for 'Girls in the Game.'

CHICAGO, IL - Fans of the Chicago Cubs will have a chance to swap out their own voice on their Voicemail with that of Len Kasper, the television play-by-play announcer for the team since 2005.

This generation’s “Voice of the Cubs” will record a 20-second audio file or a personalized message for whoever bids the highest for the prize. Bid here before 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25.

The funds from the winning bid will benefit Chicago-based ‘Girls in the Game,’ a non-profit that provides and promotes sports and fitness opportunities, nutrition and health education, and leadership development to enhance the overall health and well-being of girls. The organization’s 21st annual “Field of Dreams Gala” is also Thursday at the Chicago Marriott Magnificent Mile, 540 N. Michigan Ave. at 6 p.m. Buy tickets for the gala here.

The highest bid as of 6:45 p.m. Wednesday is $160, with a $165 minimum bid needed to top that. There have been eight total bids since it started in January.

A similar prize was provided last year by Mike Greenberg, an ESPN talk show host and Northwestern University alum. Greenberg had a little fun with his message for “Dave.”

Among Kasper’s most memorable calls include broadcasting Carlos Zambrano’s no-hitter in September 2008, the first the team had achieved in more than three decades.
