Local Company Honors Colleague by Climbing Suburban Tower

A.C.T. Metal Deck Supply is a family-owned, close-knit business, so when one of their employees died of lung cancer, it affected the entire staff. The company decided to turn their grief into something to benefit their local community and raise awareness for lung cancer by participating in the Fight For Air Climb at Oakbrook Terrace Tower.

On August 11, 2014, A.C.T Metal Deck Supply employee Todd Ardoin died after a long battle with lung cancer.

“Todd was an amazing man and we all loved working with him. We found out he had lung cancer and we were all devastated,” said Carm Termini, marketing director at A.C.T Metal Deck Supply.

Determined to honor Ardoin’s memory, the company created Team Todd for the Fight For Air Climb at Oakbrook Terrace Tower to raise awareness and funds to fight lung cancer. For the event, A.C.T. Metal Deck Supply invites all employees, family and friends, as well as Ardoin’s family to join their team. As an added benefit, the company pays for all registration fees.

“It is a really a great day for us. We climb as a team and get really competitive with times and fundraising. After everyone is done, we have a celebration in memory of Todd, which is a great way to be together. Everyone really enjoys it,” said Termini.

Over the past five years, Team Todd has grown to more than 30 people and raised more than $40,000 for the American Lung Association. The team hopes to increase that amount to more than $50,000 this year.

The Fight For Air Climb at Oakbrook Terrace Tower is set for February 9. For the event, participants race up the stairs of Oakbrook Terrace Tower (31 floors, 680 steps) to raise awareness and money to fight lung disease.
