Man Arrested In Slaying Of Loyola Student Sheridan Gorman: Report

Sheridan Gorman's body was found early Thursday morning on the pier at Loyola Beach in Rogers Park.

CHICAGO, IL — A Rogers Park man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of Loyola University student Sheridan Gorman, who was found dead Thursday morning near the lakefront, according to reports.

A police report obtained by the Chicago Tribune confirmed the arrest of the 25-year-old man, who wasn't named because he has yet to be formally charged. The report offered no motive for the shooting.

A statement released by Loyola President Mark Reed confirmed Gorman was killed during an incident north of the Lake Shore Campus.

Chicago police told CBS Chicago that Gorman was walking with a group of friends on Pratt Boulevard near the lakefront around 1:30 a.m. when a masked man walked up and fired shots.

According to the Tribune, police found Gorman's body on the pier at Loyola Beach in Rogers Park with a gunshot wound to the back.

Gorman, a freshman at Loyola, was a native of Yorktown, New York.

"This is a tragic loss, and our hearts go out to Sheridan’s family, loved ones, and all who knew her," Reed said in a message to the Loyola community.

Her family said in a statement obtained by CBS Chicago, "We want people to know that Sheridan was wonderful, and the kindest soul that ever was. She was so, so loved and cherished, and will be missed by all whose lives she touched."
