Armed Men In White Masks Robbing People In West Town

Authorities have issued a community alert for the Near West police district warning people about robberies on West Erie and Ohio streets.

CHICAGO, IL — Armed men in white surgical masks robbed people in West Town earlier this week, according to police. Authorities have issued a community alert for the Near West police district, warning residents that the robberies happened on West Erie and West Ohio Streets. Police said the robbers took out handguns and demanded victims' property.

Police said the victims in both robberies were men, walking alone at night. According to authorities, both were approached by two to four men wearing dust or surgical masks. Police said the masked men took out handguns and demanded property, then took it.

The first robbery happened in the 220 Block of West Erie Street on Monday, Sept. 25 just before 11 p.m. The second happened the following night in the 1300 Block of West Ohio Street just after midnight.

Police said the robbers were described as black men between the ages of 20 and 30, between 5-foot-5 to 6-foot-1 inches tall and weighing between 150 to 190 pounds.
