1,000 Chicago Flights Canceled, O'Hare Issues Ground Stop: Update

Flights were canceled and a ground stop issued for inbound planes as a winter storm brings a mix of precipitation through the Chicago area.

CHICAGO, IL — More than 1,000 flights have been canceled and a ground stop issued for inbound planes at O'Hare International Airport in Chicago, a result of a winter storm bringing a mix of rain, sleet, freezing rain and snow to the area, according to reports.

CBS Chicago reports the airport issued a ground stop for all incoming flights due to ice. A reported 32 flights were canceled at Midway just after 9 a.m.

On Friday, winter storm watches were issued for much of the Chicago area including Lake, Kane, DuPage, La Salle, Kendall, Cook, Winnebago, Boone, McHenry, Ogle, Lee and DeKalb counties from 3 a.m. Saturday to 3 a.m. Sunday.
