Musical on Haymarket Affair Plays Through June 12 at The Edge Theater

True story follows the widow of one of the anarchists who were hanged for an 1886 bombing.

CHICAGO, IL - A musical on Chicago’s infamous Haymarket Affair is playing at The Edge Theater, 5451 N. Broadway until June 12.

The story, based on true events related to a bombing that took place during a labor demonstration at Haymarket Square on May 4, 1886, follows Lucy Parsons, a daughter of a slave and widow of anarchist martyr Albert Parsons. Parsons was one of four radicals sentenced to death in the aftermath of the bombing.

The plot of “Haymarket: The Anarchist’s Songbook” follows Parsons and how she revisits the incident and the unjust trial that followed “in an attempt to make peace with her past,” according to an Underscore Theatre Company news release on the play, which has been playing since May 17.
