New Illinois Laws 2017: ENERGY, UTILITIES, ENVIRONMENT AND CONSERVATION

Review the new laws that will take effect on Jan. 1, 2017.

Nearly 200 new Illinois laws scheduled to take effect on Jan. 1. Here are the new laws governing Energy, Utilities, Environment and Conservation:

  • Amends Coal Mining Act ((SB 2918/PA 99-0540)):. Adds definition for recorder. Makes changes concerning mine examinations, including timing and scope, etc. Provides that if specified notice is submitted then an employer may request that the unused portion of a terminated licensee's pesticide applicator or operator license term be transferred to a newly certified or re-certified individual.
  • Makes changes to the composition of the Commission on Environmental Justice (SB 2920/PA 99-0541).
  • Amends the Illinois Solid Waste Management Act ((SB 2963/PA 99-0543): Asserts that the state has implemented an aluminum can recycling program.
  • State and Federal Environment Code Unifier (SB 2956/PA 99-0582): Amends the Environmental
    Barriers Act to incorporate 2010 changes in federal law, clear up confusion in existing statute, and create one code that architects can use to comply with their federal and state accessibility law obligations.
