Stole Safe On Tape, Seen With Handgun, Northbrook 21-Year-Old Nabbed: Cops

Detectives identified him after obtaining video and charged him with attempted armed robbery and burglary, police said.

NORTHBROOK, IL — A 21-year-old Northbrook man was arrested and faces multiple felonies after detectives allegedly identified him as the suspect in the theft of a safe. Police said an investigation began after a closed business near the intersection of Dundee and Pfingsten roads reported a safe had been stolen.

Joseph J. Sullivan, of the 2900 block of Acorn Lane—a few blocks from the scene of the alleged crime—was identified by detectives through security video, police said. He was arrested and charged with attempted armed robbery and burglary in connection with two incidents.

Police said Sullivan was also seen with a silver and black handgun in his waistband as he made a purchase in the 3100 block of Dundee Road in an earlier incident.

Sullivan was booked into Cook County Jail Friday and is being held in lieu of $50,000 bond, according to he Cook County Sheriff's office. His next court date was set for Oct. 3 in Skokie.
