Bartholomew William “Bart” LaPapa, age 80, of Shorewood, and formerly of Woodridge, passed away Friday, January 19, 2018 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home.

Born January 19, 1938 in Chicago, he was a graduate of Kelly High School, Class of 1957. Bart proudly served two years with the United States Navy, and was a member of the American Legion and the Shorewood Glen Veterans Group.

For 54 years, Bart operated Bart’s Barber Shop at 6268 Archer Avenue in Chicago.

Bart loved to travel, had a fun sense of humor, and enjoyed participating in all the activities of Shorewood Glen.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 57 years, Maxine J. (nee Marszalek) LaPapa; two children, Dawn (Scott) Breckinridge of Joliet, and David (Gina) LaPapa of North Aurora; eight grandchildren, Samantha, Ashley and Nicholas Breckinridge and Cody, Gabriel, Isabelle, JackHenry and Lukensly LaPapa; three brothers, Vincent (Sue) Olivo, Joseph (Margaret) LaPapa and Gregory LaPapa; two sisters-in-law, Bernadette Basic and Margaret Lacny; a special cousin, Mickey Rasmason; and several nieces and nephews including Robin Lacny and Jay Lacny.

He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond LaPapa; his mother, Mary (nee Raspante) (James) Olivo; and one sister, Nicola Sramek.

A Memorial Gathering for Bart LaPapa will be held Wednesday, January 24, 2018 from 9:30 a.m. until NOON, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Roads, Joliet. The Gathering will conclude with Military Honors followed by a closing prayer. Cremation rites have been accorded and interment will be private.
