1932-2018
At the age of 86, Marilyn Bastien passed away peacefully Thursday, October 18, 2018, at the American House of Cedarlake Village in Plainfield, IL. Born in Detroit, Marilyn was a lifelong Chicago area resident and 38 year veteran of Chicago Public Schools. She retired to Wilmington, IL in 1992, where she and her family built a log cabin on the Des Plaines River. A member of the Royal Yacht Club, she loved to travel and go boating, and she enjoyed spending her winters in the Florida Keys with her family. Marilyn graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Chicago Teacher’s College, a Master’s Degree from St. Xavier University, and a Doctorate from Nova Southeastern University, setting a proud example for her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas A. Bastien (2004); her son and daughter-in-law, Gerald T. and Caroline Bastien (née Broderick) (2011 and 2000, respectively); her sister, LaReine Wunderlin (nee Plank); and her parents, William and LaReine (nee Joyce) Plank. She is survived by three sons, Thomas G. (Teresa), Michael T. (Margaretann), and Robert T. (Susan) Bastien; one daughter, Therese M. (Joseph) Brezinski; one sister, Vivian (John) O’Neil; and 10 grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews, and friends also survive.
Visitation will be at St. Ann Catholic Church, 24500 S. Navajo Dr., Channahon, on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. until her Mass of Christian Burial, to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
