Payless Closing 13 Illinois Stores

Less than two weeks after news broke that Payless ShoeSource would file for bankruptcy, the retailer has released a list of 400 stores that will close immediately in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, including 13 in Illinois. The chain, founded in 1956, currently operates 4,400 stores in 30 countries, including 3,600 in North America. In January, Reuters reported Payless was in debt to the tune of $655 million.

The company will close the following Illinois locations:

  • Rockton Shopping Center in Rockford
  • Hickory Point Mall in Forsyth
  • 4111 N. Vermillion in Danville
  • Scottsdale Shopping Center, Chicago
  • Fountain Square, Waukegan
  • 9047 S. Commercial Ave. in Chicago
  • 4301 Avenue Of The Cities, Moline
  • Pine Tree Plaza, Sterling
  • Stonebrook Plaza, Merrionette Park
  • 5607 W. Belmont Ave. Chicago
  • Lakeview Plaza, Orland Park
  • Deerpath Commons Shopping Center, Lake Zurich
  • Courtesy Plaza Shopping Center, Chicago
