Police Release Audio Of Suspect In Murder Of Indiana Girls

The man's voice can be heard in a clip recorded by 14-year-old Liberty German just before she was murdered.

Before she died, police believe 14-year-old Liberty "Libby" German left a clue: her killer's voice, recorded on her cell phone. They are hoping someone who hears the clip will be able to identify the voice.

German and her friend, 13-year-old Abigail "Abby" Williams, were found dead last week in a wooded area near a hiking trail in Delphi, Indiana.

Indiana State Police have released a grainy photo of an unidentified man they believed murdered the two girls. The man, spotted walking on the Delphi Historic Trail, appears to be white and is wearing blue jeans, a blue coat/jacket and a hoodie in the photo.

On Wednesday, police also released audio extracted from a video found on Libby German's cell phone. The man appears to be saying "down the hill" in the brief clip released by police. LISTEN:

The girls disappeared after being dropped off near an abandoned rail bridge known as the Monon High Bridge at about 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13. They were supposed to be picked up later in the afternoon, police said, but failed to show up.

After an extensive search, their bodies were found at around 12:15 p.m. the next day about one-half mile upstream from the bridge. Police have not released the girls' cause of death.

During a press conference, police said they are not certain the man in the clip is the girls' killer and declined to say what else may have been captured on Libby German's phone, the Chicago Tribune reported.

But Capt. David Bursten said it's unlikely that the clip is unrelated to the murders. "She had the presence of mind to have the phone on and to capture video as well as audio," he said, according to the Tribune.
