Pritzker, Johnson Call To Abolish ICE In Wake Of Fatal Minnesota Shooting
Gov. Pritzker and Mayor Johnson joined nationwide calls to abolish ICE after federal authorities fatally shot a man in Minnesota.

CHICAGO, IL — Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson joined calls nationwide to abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement after a federal agent fatally shot a man in Minnesota on Saturday.
In a post on X, Pritzker wrote, "It's time to abolish Trump's ICE."
In his own post, Johnson also called for the end of ICE, expressing sympathy for the family of the man who was killed.

"We cannot allow Trump's militarized and masked police to continue killing innocent people with impunity," Johnson wrote. "Chicago stands in solidarity with the people of Minneapolis who are facing this tyranny. We need ICE and CBP to get out of our cities right now."
Alex Pretti, 37 and born in Illinois, was shot multiple times by federal officers on Saturday morning during a confrontation near the intersection of 26th Street and Nicollet Avenue in Minneapolis, his family told the AP.

Federal authorities said Pretti was shot after he approached ICE agents with a handgun as they were conducting a targeted enforcement operation.
In September, during Operation Midway Blitz in Chicago, federal immigration agents shot and killed a man in Franklin Park. The Department of Homeland Security said the man,Silverio Villegas-Gonzalez attempted to drive his car into agents during an arrest.
A month later, a Border Patrol agent shot Marimar Martinez five times, claiming she was using her car to ram federal agents in a southwest Chicago neighborhood. The U.S. Attorney's Office dismissed criminal charges that were filed against her.
Since September, 12 people have been shot as Trump's Department of Homeland Security has intensified deportation operations around the country, NBC reported.
