Quaker Expands Granola Bar, Cereal Recall Over Salmonella Fears

The revised recall includes additional granola and cereal bars, and several Cap'n Crunch and Quaker Oatmeal Squares cereals.

CHICAGO, IL — The Quaker Oats Company is recalling several additional cereals and granola bars, broadening an alert issued last month over fears the products may be contaminated with salmonella.

Salmonella infections can cause serious illnesses in young children or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Those infected with salmonella may have symptoms including fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the bacterial disease can be fatal.

In December, the company recalled multiple kinds of Quaker Chewy granola bars, Quaker Puffed Granola and Quaker Simply Granola cereals. The recalled granola bars were also included in several snack mix variety boxes, the company said.

On Thursday, the company revised the recall and added several other products that could be contaminated with salmonella, according to an alert on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's website.

The revised recall includes several Cap'n Crunch cereals and cereal bars, Quaker Oatmeal Squares cereals, Fruity Fun and yogurt granola bars, and Gatorade protein bars.
