Record First Snow of Season and Snowfall Totals; Freezing Fog Coming Monday Morning
A look at snowfall totals for the Chicago area from Sunday's snowstorm and a look ahead at this week's weather forecast.

Sunday marked the first measurable snowfall of the season and it will go down in the records books.
As of 6 p.m., there was 6.1 inches of snowfall on the ground at O’Hare, which is the city of Chicago’s largest first measurable snowfall total on record, according to WGN’s Weather Center.

WGN's Weather Center and the National Weather Service provided the following additional snowfall totals for the Chicago area through 6 p.m.:

- Rockford Airport: 5.3 inches
- NWS Chicago/Romeoville: 8.1 inches
- Midway Airport: 5.3 inches
- St. Charles 7.0 inches
- Arlington Heights 6.5 inches
- Plainfield 6.0 inches
- Hoffman Estates 6.3 inches
- Sugar Grove 6.5 inches
- Somonauk 7.0 inches

The snow was expected to dissipate early in the evening for much of the Chicago area on Sunday. Only minor additional accumulation was expected later into the night, according to the National Weather Service.

Areas of dense freezing fog with visibility of one quarter mile or less will enter the area late Sunday and continue Monday morning. Temps are expected to be in the upper 30s on Monday and Tuesday before dropping off later in the week. Highs in the low- and mid-20s are expected on Thursday and Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
As for snow, there is a chance for rain and snow Tuesday morning and another chance for snow showers on Wednesday night. More snow could be headed this way next weekend as well, according to the National Weather Service.
Here is a more detailed look at this week’s forecast:
- Rest Of Tonight: Cloudy. Snow ending early in the evening. Areas of dense freezing fog with visibility one quarter mile or less late. Only minor additional accumulation. Temperatures nearly steady in the lower 30s. West winds increasing to 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation 70 percent early this evening.
- Monday: Cloudy. Areas of dense freezing fog with visibility one quarter mile or less at times in the morning. Temperatures nearly steady in the lower 30s. South winds 10 to 15 mph.
- Tuesday: Cloudy with a 30 percent chance of light rain and light snow in the morning...then partly sunny in the afternoon. Highs in the upper 30s. North winds 5 to 10 mph in the morning becoming northwest 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon.
- Wednesday: Mostly cloudy. Highs around 30.
- Thursday: Mostly cloudy. Highs in the lower 20s.
- Thursday Night Through Saturday: Mostly cloudy. Lows 14 to 18. Highs in the mid 20s.
