Rep. Martwick: Illinois on a Better Path with Fair Tax Amendment
Illinois House and Senate Democrats unite to put key tax question on the ballot next year.

CHICAGO -- Monday’s historic vote for the Fair Tax constitutional amendment could be remembered for generations as the turning point for Illinois’ financial future.
State Rep. Rob Martwick, D-Chicago, led the successful push Monday for SJRCA 1, which puts on the November 2020 ballot the question of whether Illinois should adopt a graduated income tax structure. The bill already passed the Senate and received a 73-44 vote in the House to put it on the ballot.
Martwick joined Gov. J.B. Pritzker and other Democratic leaders at a news conference Monday after the House vote to celebrate the outcome.

“This is no small accomplishment. This gives us the tools to start reforming Illinois, to really start fixing the problems in a mathematical way,” Martwick said. “I look forward to continuing our education to make sure the voters adopt this as well.”
