Smoke In Delta Cockpit At Midway Delays Flight

A Tri-State Fire Alert reported smoke in an arriving plane at Midway airport.

CHICAGO, IL -- Several firetrucks surrounded a plane at Midway International Airport Thursday after reports of smoke in the cockpit of a Delta Boeing 717. The incident reportedly caused passengers to miss layovers. A spokesperson with the Chicago Fire Department confirmed there was smoke in the cockpit, but it caused no injuries. He was unable to give further details.

"After landing and during taxi to the gate at Chicago-Midway, a smoky odor was observed on Delta flight DL2573 from Atlanta," a Delta spokesperson said in an emailed statement. "The aircraft continued to the gate where customers deplaned normally."

The Delta spokesperson said the fire department was called to meet the aircraft "out of an abundance of caution," and that Delta's maintenance technicians are on scene "evaluating" the Boeing 717.
