Tourists Arrested For Falsely Reporting Armed Robbery In Loop
Two tourists are in custody and will be charged with filing false police reports.

CHICAGO, IL — A man and woman visiting Chicago are in custody and will be charged with filing false police reports after they claimed they were robbed at knifepoint early Thursday in the Loop, police said. The pair, both 27, said they were robbed of more than $17,000 in personal belongings at Columbus and Lower Wacker Drive.
The couple told police that three suspects approached, and one pulled out a knife. The pair claimed the suspects stole their belongings, including a wedding ring valued at $12,000, police said. The couple also claimed the robbers took a purse valued at $3,000, a Macbook worth $2,000, a $300 suitcase and an iPad mini worth $150, police said.
Area Central detectives investigated the claims and found their reports were unfounded. They were taken into custody Thursday morning.
