Robert Morris University Illinois to host EbL Symposium
Educators throughout the Chicago area are invited to attend a symposium on Experience-Based Learning on July 23.

Experience-based learning (EbL) is an integral part of curricula at Robert Morris University Illinois. The concept is well-known in education and promotes the idea that knowledge is created through experience. At the college level, internships provide the opportunity for students to apply the information taught in the classroom and use it in a setting that reinforces that knowledge. For example, RMU business students will take the learned elements of marketing and assist business start-ups by creating a business plan that includes image and promotion efforts. Culinary students may spend a quarter working in a restaurant, assisting the kitchen manager so they can apply techniques of maintaining food supplies while balancing the important attributes of freshness and quantity.
For elementary and high school educators, EbL occurs through projects, field trips and experiments that enable students to observe such things as animal behavior, plant growth, weather changes, the impact of service projects, or creating programs that impact learning. The experience possibilities are endless.
The Robert Morris EbL Symposium is a great way for teachers to expand their horizons by contributing to and learning from the experiences of other educators. For registration information, go to robertmorris.edu/ebli/symposium.
