Robert Morris University Illinois Welcomes Insurance Reps to Professional Development Week

Representatives from the insurance industry met with graduate students on changing employment trends in the field.

Students in Morris Graduate School of Management at Robert Morris University participated in a panel discussion on employment trends with representatives of the insurance industry. Margaret Resce Milkint, (left, shown above) managing partner of The Jackson Group, an executive search firm; Lisa Paschal, (center) chief human resources officer at Ryan Specialty Group and Annette Reid (right), head of talent for Aviva, spoke to students on the changing employment needs of insurance companies in Chicago and around the country.

Ms. Milkint explained that the average age of agents in the industry is 59 and that many are looking to retire within the next five years. “This presents an opportunity for young graduates,” she explained. Ms. Paschal added that the field includes positions in marketing, communications, and human resources, so students earning degrees with these concentrations should expand their employment searches to include insurance.

Ms. Reid provided additional suggestions for interviewing and the preparation candidates should undergo in order to demonstrate that they would be assets to a company as employees. “First of all, do your homework. Check out the company’s website. Learn about their mission and core values. Research the job description and requirements. Think in terms of how your education and experience can fulfill their expectations.”
