Dallas Police On Alert After Threat Made Against Officers; No Suspicious Persons Found After Search

SWAT was on scene at police headquarters after a threat directed at Dallas police was reported Saturday.

Dallas, TX — SWAT teams in armored vehicles were posted at Dallas Police headquarters while tactical officers stood guard and others swarmed a nearby parking garage in response to an anonymous threat against officers and a report of a masked man seen nearby that was unfounded.

"The Dallas Police Department received an anonymous threat against law enforcement across the city and has taken precautionary measures to heightened security," police said in a statement as reported by WFAA. Police ordered all live feeds from the scene to be cut.

According to the Dallas Morning News, a man wearing a black mask was reportedly spotted in a parking garage behind the headquarters, and SWAT officers surrounded the building with guns drawn. After searching police headquarters, officials said the search turned up empty, and no suspicious items or persons were found.

Lamar Street in front of the building was shut down.

An initial manual search turned up no suspects, but police made a second sweep with K-9s. Police said reports of a lockdown and shots fired were inaccurate.

"Out of an abundance of caution, officers searched the garage to ensure reports of a suspicious person was thoroughly investigated," police said.

Multiple reporters citing police sources reported a threat was made by a group from Houston claiming to be armed.

The threat comes less than two days after a deadly sniper attack during a rally protesting police killings of black men that left five Dallas law enforcement officials dead.

Police did not immediately return a call for comment from Patch.
