'Saved By The Bell' Parody Diner Planned in Chicago

Fans of the 1990's hit show will have a month to take in "Saved By The Max."

CHICAGO, IL - A Facebook page for a pop-up bar and parody diner for “The Max” from the 1990’s classic “Saved By The Bell” has revealed intentions to open “in the heart of Wicker Park” on June 1.

The anonymous invite does not reveal a location for the plans, but indicates “Saved By The Max” will be open at 8 p.m. that night with a menu that includes “AC Sliders,” the “Preppy BLT” and the “Lisa Turtle Milkshake,” among other items with name ties to characters on the light comedy focused around six students at the fictional Bayside High School in California.

Plans are to have the diner modeled after the set from the television show. A duo named “Max and Kelly” is expected to team as waiter/waitress.

More than 6,000 Facebook users are “interested” in the event, but little else is known. The organizer did not reveal himself or herself while addressing the plans, and the event page notes “Saved By The Bell and all related characters and insignia are copyright NBC Productions and Rysher Entertainment... This parody pop up is in no way affiliated with NBC Productions or Rysher Entertainment.”

Even though the iconic show starring Mark Paul Gosselaar, Mario Lopez and others was filmed and set in California, this will interestingly be the second time a Saved By The Bell parody has invaded the North Side neighborhood.

In 2012, Wicker Park restaurant Antique Taco “dressed up” as the sit-com diner for Halloween, Eater Chicago recalls.

This one is planned for more than a day, but a Twitter account for the parody restaurant indicates it will be there “for one month!”
