Shots Fired Outside Former Mayor Lori Lightfoot's Home: Reports

Security officers were in an unmarked squad car outside the mayor's Logan Square home when it was struck by a bullet, reports said.

CHICAGO, IL — Authorities are investigating after shots were fired outside the home of former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot early Saturday morning, according to multiple reports citing police.

Officers assigned to a security detail outside Lightfoot's home in the 3400 block of West Wrightwood Avenue were inside an unmarked squad car around 3 a.m. when a bullet struck the car's windshield, WGN Chicago reported.

The officers didn't realize what happened until they found a bullet fragment on the car floor, reports said.

The officers were not injured and did not return fire, according to an NBC Chicago report. A suspect has not been identified.

A spokesperson for Lightfoot told NBC Chicago the former mayor and her family were "shaken" by the incident.

"They are grateful for the dangerous work and sacrifice of the detail officers," Lightfoot's spokeswoman Joanna Klonsky said in a statement.
