Skokie Names Lifelong Resident Patrick Hastings as New Public Works Director

SKOKIE, IL — The Village of Skokie has announced the appointment of Patrick Hastings as its new public works director. Hastings, a lifelong Skokie resident, is scheduled to begin his new position on Monday, Feb. 23.

Hastings previously served as the director of public works for the Village of Schiller Park since August 2024. He brings 18 years of experience in municipal public works, including strategic management and community-focused service delivery, to his new role in Skokie.

“Patrick’s deep roots in Skokie, combined with his proven leadership both in the field and as an administrator, make him exceptionally well suited for this important role,” Village Manager John Lockerby said. “His experience managing complex infrastructure projects and long-term planning initiatives will be a tremendous asset as we continue delivering high-quality services now and into the future.”

Hastings expressed his commitment to the community.

“I’ve had the privilege of watching this community grow my entire life, and now I’m honored to help shape its future,” Hastings said. “I’m committed to bringing innovative solutions and strategic projects that improve quality of life and position Skokie for long-term success. I look forward to working alongside our dedicated team to serve our wonderful community.”

During his tenure in Schiller Park, Hastings oversaw the utilities, streets, vehicle maintenance, and administration divisions of the public works department. He also managed a contracted Village engineer. His accomplishments there include developing the Village’s first 10-year capital improvement plan, overseeing the lead service line replacement program, and managing a village-wide water meter reading device replacement project.

Before his service in Schiller Park, Hastings was the assistant public works director for the City of Wood Dale for more than four years. He also served as a management analyst at the Village of Libertyville. Hastings began his public service career with the Village of Skokie as a maintenance worker, serving from May 2006 through August 2017.

He holds a Master of Public Administration from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a Bachelor of Arts in Justice Studies from Northeastern Illinois University. Hastings is a graduate of Niles West High School.
