An inch of snow is expected north of Interstate 80 to possibly near two inches near the Wisconsin-Illinois border.

ILLINOIS — Slushy snow accumulations are possible late Thursday into Friday as a "fast-moving disturbance" moves across the area, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service said a two to three-hour period of wet snow is expected Thursday night across northern Illinois. Snow will move from west to east over the area, between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m.

While it will not snow for long, it is likely to fall at a heavier rate, with around an inch of snow expected north of Interstate 80 to possibly near two inches near the Wisconsin-Illinois border, according to the weather service.

Winds will also gust up to 30 mph during the snow, which could reduce visibility, the weather service said.

The snow will change to rain early Friday, but slick travel and increased commute times are possible Friday morning, according to the weather service.
