Second City Alum Suspended From 'SNL' for Tweet About Trump's Son
Katie Rich issued a Twitter apology on Monday.

A Tweet about President Donald Trump's 10-year-old son prompted an apology from Chicago-area native and "Saturday Night Live" writer Katie Rich, but the comment reportedly got her suspended from the long-running comedy show.
Rich, a Second City alum, is from Orland Park and a graduate of Northwestern University.
The now-deleted inauguration day tweet joked that Barron Trump "will be this country's first home-school shooter" and drew the anger of some in the Twitterverse, who declared that kids were off-limits when it came to criticism of elected officials. Chelsea Clinton, who also spent a good deal of her childhood in the White House, defended Barron in a message on Sunday.

Barron Trump deserves the chance every child does-to be a kid. Standing up for every kid also means opposing @POTUS policies that hurt kids.

Rich's Twitter account appeared to have been de-activated over the weekend, according to the Chicago Tribune, but on Monday, she returned to the website to tweet an apology, calling her comment "inexcusable":
I sincerely apologize for the insensitive tweet. I deeply regret my actions & offensive words. It was inexcusable & I'm so sorry.

The apology was the only remaining tweet appearing on Rich's account as of early Monday evening.

A source reportedly told the Washington Post that Rich was suspended indefinitely from the "SNL," which hired her to write for "The Weekend Update" in 2013.
Her name did not appear in the show's credits on Saturday, but was still listed on the SNL website, according to the Tribune.
